Meeniyan Community Hub

Meeniyan Hub Progress - July 2024

Update July 2024

Phase two of the Hempcrete works have begun and are likely to be completed by the end of July, weather permitting.

The next step after Hempcrete is the roof, which will likely start in early August. The site will look much busier once this happens, as multiple trades will be on site fitting internal linings, completing additional concrete works, fit-off works and finishes.

We are still on track for a late 2024 completion date, as long as the weather holds.

Update May 2024

Construction on the Meeniyan Community Hub is well progressed with walls starting to be erected and the building taking shape.

The project involves replacement of the Meeniyan community meeting rooms, storage areas and public toilets. These facilities have reached their end of life, and were identified for replacement in Council's Asset Renewal Program.

The new and improved facilities will create more usable public open space and will connect seamlessly with the Meeniyan Hall via a series of verandas. The new Hub will feature a sustainable design including the use of an innovative, and environmentally-friendly material called Hempcrete - which is, as the name suggests, concrete made with hemp.

Hempcrete walls will be installed in the coming weeks, after which roofing and the internal fit out will commence. The total cost of the Hub is $2.35 million with $1.6 million contributed via Council's Capital Works Program and $750,000 funded by the Australian Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

The project is expected to be completed in late 2024.
