Meeniyan Community Hub

Update May 2024

Construction on the Meeniyan Community Hub is well progressed with walls starting to be erected and the building taking shape.

The project involves replacement of the Meeniyan community meeting rooms, storage areas and public toilets. These facilities have reached their end of life, and were identified for replacement in Council's Asset Renewal Program.

The new and improved facilities will create more usable public open space and will connect seamlessly with the Meeniyan Hall via a series of verandas. The new Hub will feature a sustainable design including the use of an innovative, and environmentally-friendly material called Hempcrete - which is, as the name suggests, concrete made with hemp.

Hempcrete walls will be installed in the coming weeks, after which roofing and the internla fit out will commence. The total cost of the Hub is $2.35 million with $1.6 million contributed via Council's Capital Works Program and $750,000 funded by the Australian Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

The project is expected to be completed in late 2024.
