Naming roads, places & features
ANZAC Commemorative Road Naming Project
Council has been involved in the ANZAC Commemorative Naming Pilot Project to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the Gallipoli landings through recognising men and women who have served in the Australian Defence Forces. The Project has offered an opportunity to identify and allocate names of cultural and historical significance to unnamed roads and existing roads throughout the Shire.
Between 2014 and 2018 Victoria will join global commemorations to mark the First World War and the Victorian Government has launched the Victorian Anzac Centenary motif/logo, Branding Guidelines. The logo may also be used in Street/feature signage. Council recently applied (2014) for a grant to re-sign all our roads within the municipality, named after WW1 veterans with a commemorative sign.
Victorians are being asked to research these people from their municipalities and provide proposals to their local Council's. Councils will then decide which name proposals should be used to name or rename roads, geographical features or localities.
