South Coast Community Leadership Program
The South Coast Community Leadership Program is a free six-month course with workshops and individual reflection tasks. All of this is designed to help community members build their leadership skills, explore new ways of leading, and connecting with other like-minded local people.
The Program is a partnership between Bass Coast Shire Council and South Gippsland Shire Council. This comprehensive Program focuses on growing leadership opportunities throughout South Gippsland and Bass Coast.
Program Dates for 2025
Applications Close — Sunday 2 February 2025.
Interviews — Wednesday 5 to Monday 10 February 2025.
Successfull Applicants Notified — by Friday 28 February 2025.

- Launch, Welcome and Teamwork — Saturday 15 March in Korumburra.
- Project Planning — Sunday 30 March in Kilcunda.
- Understanding How Council Works — Tuesday 8 April online (evening session).
- Emotional Intelligence and Understanding in Leadership — Saturday 3 May in Wattlebank.
- Culture and Inclusion — Wednesday 14 May in Korumburra (evening session).
- Board / Committee Governance — Sunday 25 May in Meeniyan.
- Values — Tuesday 3 June in Inverloch (evening session).
- Public Engagement and Storytelling — Saturday 14 June in Bena.
- Strategic Leadership — Sunday 29 June in Kernot.
- Networking and Getting to Know Your LGA — Saturday 26 July in Meeniyan.
- Celebration and Graduation — Sunday 10 August in Cowes.
What is Involved?
Participants will take part in an intensive 11-session skills development program held between March and August 2025 in locations across South Gippsland and Bass Coast. Participants must be prepared to attend all sessions.
There are individual pre-session activities before each session – this is approximately 30 minutes a fortnight.
The program is funded by Bass Coast Shire Council and South Gippsland Shire Council, so there will be no fee for participants. Limited places are available.
Car-pooling amongst participants is encouraged and will be discussed at the first session. However, assistance for transport and childcare is available if required.
What is the Application Process?
Applications will be accepted until 5.00pm Sunday 2 February 2025.
Online interviews will be undertaken between 5 and 10 February 2025. Successful applicants will be notified in February, with the program commencing in March.
